About Paragliding
Although from  earliest times humans have always demonstrated the desire to fly, the beginnings of the sport of paragliding occurred in the year 1952, when Domina Jalbert first modified a parachute, enabling him literally to fly. Further advances made in the development of the sport resulted in the production of the "Para-Commander" parachute, which was produced by French engineer Pierre Lemoigne in 1961. At that time "paragliding” or “parasailing" was first mentioned.

On the basis of a sketch made by Leonardo da Vinci, the American Domina Jalbert patented "Parafoil" in 1963, which is mostly kept up to date as a form of paragliders.  Further research was led by U.S. NASA, which was testing parachutes for use in space capsules. At the end of 1965, these parachutes were publicly promoted at Hunter Mountain in the vicinity of New York City, and the term "paragliding" was officially mentioned for the first time.

The first official document on paragliding was written by the British parachutist Walter Neumar, who wrote "Operational procedures for horizontal moving parachutes," and with a group of enthusiasts in the British Parachuting Association first registered the British Association of Clubs for Horizontal Moving Parachutes in 1973. Patrick Gilligan (Canadian) and Betrand Dubuis (Swiss) were the first to write a "Manual for paragliding" in 1985, when the term paragliding entered into official use.

In the 1980s the number of fans of this sport grew rapidly. The first official World Championship in paragliding was held in Kössenu in Austria in 1989. The beginnings of paragliding in the former Yugoslavia correlate with the early ‘80s. The first signs were recorded in Slovenia, and by the end of 1988. Slovenia began producing equipment for the paragliding industry. In Croatia the first paragliding club was founded in 1993.Today  there are 20 paragliding clubs in Croatia.
